WALTER FONSECA April 25, 1937 - Dec. 28, 2012 Walter Joseph Fonseca, Resident of Henderson, lost his courageous battle with PML. Walt passed away peacefully in his daughter's home, in Fairfax, Va. He was born and raised in Cambridge, Mass. At a very young age, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he dedicated a career to serving our country for 20 years. His tours of duty included the USA, Germany, Korea, as well as Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Medal of Honor. Upon retirement, Walt married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Fonseca. They will forever walk hand-in-hand! Walt was an avid golfer, reader, sports enthusiast and devoted New England Patriots fan. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, as well as the American Legion. Above all, he was devoted to his family and countless friends, who will miss him dearly. We were blessed to have him in our lives. He will forever live in our hearts! Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Fonseca; as well as his son, Walter Joseph Fonseca Jr. Surviving family members include, daughters, Patricia Fonseca of Indianapolis, Ann Marie Riedinger of Milton, Del., Kathleen Brady of Indianapolis, and Bridget Fonseca of Fairfax. His surviving sons are Edwin Douglas of Hummelstown, Pa., David Fonseca of Okeechobee, Fla., John Wood of Lovettsville, Va. and stepson, Gregory Stephen of Henderson. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Walt touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 12:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. There will also be a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 310 W. Pacific Ave., Henderson, NV 89015.
