Dr. William Wells Obituary
DR. WILLIAM WELLS Dr. William R. Wells, 72, of Las Vegas, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009. Born in Winder, Ga., in 1936, he earned degrees from Georgia Tech, Harvard and Virginia Tech. Dr. Wells served as the founding dean of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at UNLV. As a professor for 40 years, he published extensively in technical journals, worked at NASA during the dawn of the space age, and was a member of the California-Nevada Superspeed Train Commission. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Cora Fincher Wells; and two brothers, Lonnie and Eugene Wells. He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Margie; three children, Ward and wife, Jennifer, of Riverside, Calif., Winston and wife, Sara, of Jacksonville, Ill., and Richard and wife, Erin, of Las Vegas. He also leaves four grandchildren, Eric, Madison, Candace and William; two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Lynsey Flesher; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Cora Lee Attaway of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Joy Wells of Winder, Ga. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 27. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28, both at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119. The eulogy will be delivered by Joseph R. Santen.
