1944 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
ROBERT MATHIS Robert Daniel Mathis, "Bob," 70, passed away at home in Las Vegas May 7, 2014. He was born Feb. 29, 1944, in Logan, W.Va. Bob grew up in both Logan and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. After graduating from high school, Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1966, then graduated from the West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1971, and had a long career as a mechanical design engineer in the aerospace industry. He worked for Rocketdyne, Lockheed, Hughes and others. Upon retirement, Bob returned to West Virginia to care for his beloved aunt, Calla, until she passed away. After a short stay in Texas, Bob moved to Las Vegas in 1999. Bob was an avid skier, dancer and motorcycle enthusiast, and in his younger days was an accomplished skydiver with over 100 jumps. An extremely talented ballroom dancer, Bob choreographed many of his and his partner's dancing moves. We so love him and miss him dearly. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Mathis; his close older brother, Tom Mathis; and a dear cousin, Leslie. He is survived by his mother, Ann Sullivan Hickman (98); his younger brothers, Joe and Mike Hickman; and his partner of the last 12 years, Maralee "Lee" Orzech; as well as other family I've not yet been able to track down. Burial will be private. Any family and friends who would like further information, please send emails to or write Lee Orzech, 4012 S. Rainbow Blvd., #K476, Las Vegas, NV 89103.
