JOHN BARD Obituary
JOHN BARD Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, John David Bard, passed away June 24, 2014, in Las Vegas. John was born April 4, 1929, in North China, to Balthadar and Ruth Bard. John was a great man. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and gave much to his country, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the China Service Medal. John was married to Betty Jane Rigby and together they had four children. Betty later passed away. Dec. 5, 1992 John married Colleen Fitzgerald. They were then sealed for all time and eternity in the Las Vegas LDS Temple July 12, 1999. John was a fun-loving and good-natured man who followed the example of his Savior. He was a master welder, engineer and inventor. The loves of his life were his family and dance. He absolutely adored dancing with his sweetheart, Colleen, and made a point to go dancing several times a week. John truly loved life. During his last few weeks on this Earth, he took his beloved wife dancing and to the temple one last time. He gave so much love to those around him and will be deeply missed, but we are comforted to know that he is now dancing with the angels and that we will one day be together again. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Jane Rigby; and children, Charles Emmitt Bard, Michelle Neilsen Moore and Robin Prentice. John is survived by his wife, Colleen Fitzgerald Bard; children, Robert (Cindy) Bard, David (Terri) Bard, Susan Bard (David) Benel, Sherry (Scott) Stockton, Shane (Laurie) Neilsen, Frank Moore and Towanda Heape; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas. Visitation again 11-11:45 a.m. Thursday, July 3, with services following at noon, both at the Meadow LDS 5th Ward, 3200 N. Mustang, Las Vegas. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Heber City Cemetery, 650 North 550 East. Services are in the care of Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, Heber City, Utah.
