EDWARD HOWATT Edward "Ed" C. Howatt, 86, of Las Vegas, passed away Sept. 14, 2009, in Henderson. He was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Springfield, Mass., and was a seven-year resident of Nevada. He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Edwina "Teddy"; sons, Kenyon (Pamela) and Douglas (Marlene); grandchildren, Cassandra, Brittany and Trevor. His son, Stephen, passed away May 13, 1971. Ed was a U.S. Foreign Service Officer for more than 20 years, assigned to Cape Town, South Africa, Lagos, Nigeria, Melbourne, Australia, Helsinki, Finland and New Delhi, India. Ed and Teddy retired to San Diego in 1973. After 20 years, they moved to Tucson, Ariz., and then in 2002, moved to Las Vegas. During their retirement, Ed and Teddy continued to travel extensively through Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Ed was an award-winning photographer and a published newspaper columnist. He maintained an avid interest in U.S. and world politics throughout his life and recently included computers and the internet. He was known by family and friends to have a quiet but sharp sense of humor. He will be missed. No services are scheduled.
