EDGAR EWING Edgar Rice Ewing, 76, of Dunnellon, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, after a nine-week hospital stay while vacationing in Las Vegas. Born in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of Margaret Ewing Levy and Edgar Rice Ewing Sr. Ed graduated from Roessleville High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Navy, Ed married the love of his life, Shirley Lansley Ewing, in 1954, and after the service they lived in Colonie, N.Y., Suffern, N.Y., and Dunnellon, Fla. Ed retired from Major Liquor Distributors in 1997, and became an active volunteer for the Veterans Administration, the Share Program and the Perfect Attendance Program at Dunnellon Elementary School. Ed is survived by his wife, Shirley; sister, Virginia Ewing Plant (Townsend); brother, William Levy (Kathy); sons, Ed Ewing, Michael Ewing (Loretta), Bruce Ewing (Andrew Conlu) and Greg Ewing (Kate); grandchildren, Karen, Brian, Jason and Marc Ewing; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89121. A memorial service will also take place at a future date in Ocala, Fla., at which time his remains will be laid to rest at the Bushnell Veterans Cemetery in Florida.
