MERILYN WORKS In loving memory of Merilyn Works who passed away All Saints Day, Nov. 1, 2010. She was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Seattle, to Gustave and Ada Templin. After moving to Butte, Mont., she met and married John Works in 1951. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1960, where she started a career with the Las Vegas Police Department, as one of it's first female police officers and detective. She retired from the position of juvenile detective in 1963. She worked for many years in the family's church, First Good Shepherd Lutheran, as the church secretary. She left there and went to work for Summa Corporation and finally retired from the convention industry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Ada Templin; husband John Works; and brother, Harold Templin. She is survived by her sons, Micheal Works and Robert Works, both of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Jason Works, Matthew Works, Stephanie (Works) Brewster and Aaron Works; as well as three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Templin of Washington; and nieces, Jennifer (Templin) Weinberg and Kristina (Templin) Porter. She will be interred with with her husband, John, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. Services will be private.
