MARY DAVIES Mary Helen Gater Davies, 73, an early pioneer of Page, Ariz., and resident of Las Vegas since 1962, died peacefully Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Born Nov. 26, 1938, Mary was the first child of the late Charles Franklin Gater and Helen Louise Sitterding Gater of Brownstown, Ind., both of whom preceded her in death. She was also known as "Doodee," a nickname coined by her father. Mary was a loving and devoted wife and mother as well as a beloved friend to many. Those who were privileged to have met her will agree that she was "one of a kind." She will be remembered both as a great lady and the life of the party. There was never a dull moment when Mary was around. She could brighten the darkest of moments with her sense of humor, which lives on in her three sons. Mary had a big heart and big shoulders - she was a loyal confidante. Her talents were varied. She could rebuild a 409 Chevrolet engine, outwheely everyone and be first to the finish with her red Chenowith sandrail and make the best corn pudding west of the Mississippi. Mary loved racing remote-control cars and following NASCAR with her husband, Dayle. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed collecting antiques. Her most notable career accomplishment was her 27-year employment with Dr. Sidney Boyers and Dr. Jerald Boyers as their office manager and gal Friday. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband and best friend, of 52 years, Dayle; her son, John; and daughter-in-law, Tina; granddaughter, Nicole; and grandson, Skylar of Las Vegas; her son, Mike; daughter-in-law, Stephanie; grandsons, Chad and Cole; granddaughter, Senna Marie of Belmont, Calif.; and her son, Derrel and wife, Kim, of Las Vegas. Mary also leaves behind her sisters, Ava Armstrong and Nancy Shurley, and their families of Las Vegas. Mary also leaves behind her three special furry best friends, Squeak, Callie and The Fox, who spent many days lounging with and comforting their Mom. No services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, Mary's family suggests memorials be made to The Nevada SPCA at www.nevadaspca.org (702) 873-SPCA (7722). Mary will be missed by those whose lives she touched.
