ARLENE HIRATA Arlene S. Hirata, 64, a retired surgical tech, of Henderson, passed away May 4, 2012. She was born July 12, 1947 in Denver, and was a five-year resident of Nevada. Always willing to go overboard to please family, friends, acquaintances, doctors and co-workers, Arlene will be missed by all. She was married to Norm for 44 years, with three wonderful children and two beautiful grandchildren. She had many blessings in life. An operating room/surgical technician by profession, she enjoyed working for several physicians in Gardena and Torrance, Calif. before retiring to become a homemaker. Although having numerous medical problems, Arlene always showed a warm smile and was overly generous to all. Crafts, rubber stamps and collecting beanie babies were her passions in California. In Nevada, she enjoyed playing the penny slots and watching her favorite television shows. Among her unfulfilled, yet highly talented abilities was her superior skills with her hands. Candle carving, long before it became popular, and the shaping of clay and moldable materials into amusing caricatures (a 300 lb. canary) were her hidden talents. She was preceded in death by Miss Yoda, her beloved pug. She is survived by her husband, Norm; son, Jason Hirata; daughter-in-law, Kathleen; grandson, Benjamin; and granddaughter, Lily of Camas, Wash.; daughters, Juliet Hirata of Corona, Calif. and Jenica Hirata of St. Louis; parents, Ben and Lillian Sekishiro of San Diego; and brother, Victor Sekishiro and wife, Linda of Poway, Calif. Memorial services will be at San Diego Buddhist Church, 2929 Market St., San Diego, CA 92102, (619) 239-0896. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arlene's name to your local Pug rescue.
