PEGGY PIERCE Obituary
PEGGY PIERCE Margaret Comstock Pierce, known universally as Peggy, of Las Vegas, passed away at her home, Oct. 10, 2013, after a 10-year battle with breast cancer. Her sister Catherine Moyer, of Sacramento, Calif., and her long-time companion, Jon Sasser, of Reno, were at her side when she died. Peggy was born in Milton, Mass. She attended school in Milton and Pekin, Ill., and Margaret Hall in Versailles, Ky., before moving to San Francisco. Peggy moved to Las Vegas in 1986 to pursue a singing career, starting as a food server at the Desert inn. She later became a Culinary Union Local 226 shop steward. She served in the Nevada State Legislature for six terms, starting in 2002. She contracted cancer at the same time that she began in the Legislature and was lucky to be healthy for most of the next ten years, until 2013, when her cancer returned for the last time. Peggy was lovingly cared for by her sister, Catherine Moyer. She was preceded in death by her father, the Reverend Nicholas D. Pierce. Peggy is survived by her mother, Louise S. Pierce of Peoria, Ill.; her sisters, Elizabeth Pierce of Peoria, Sarah Petite of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, and Virginia Pierce of Brookline, Mass.; her brother, Michael (Linda Plomos) Pierce of Sharon, Mass.; her sister, Catherine Moyer of Sacramento; her brother, Geoffrey Pierce of Houston, Texas; and her sister, Barbara (Timothy) Drew. She is also survived by her former husband, Jeffrey Brodkin of San Francisco; as well as her beloved nieces and nephews, Caroline and Daniel Moyer, Frank, Nora, James and William Drew, and Samuel, Johanna and Claire Petite, Kristina and Benjamin Pierce. Celebration of life for Peggy will be 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Culinary Union, 1630 S. Commerce St., Las Vegas. The program will take place 3:30-5 p.m., with time before and after for refreshments and sharing of memories.
