FRED GIBSON III Obituary
FRED GIBSON III Fred Daniel Gibson III, "Pete," of Las Vegas, a beloved son, husband, and father, passed away April 6, 2014. Pete was born May 15, 1951, in Reno, to Mary Gallagher Gibson and Fred D. Gibson Jr. He was a 1969 graduate of Valley High School, a 1973 graduate of the University of Arizona, and a 1976 graduate of the J. Rueben Clark School of Law at BYU. Pete served as a captain in the U.S. Army, Judge Advocate General Corps, and as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Nevada. He had been in private practice since 1984, acting as an associate general counsel for American Pacific Corporation, and as president of the company's start up subsidiary engaged in the manufacture and distribution of chemical fire suppression products. He was also engaged as general manager for two professional sports franchises, the Continental Indoor Soccer League and Arena Football League, and was past president of the Arena Football League. Pete was admitted to the State Bars of Nevada and California, as well as to various U.S. courts of appeals, and served as a private prosecuting attorney for the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline on a case-by-case basis. He became a shareholder and Senior Litigation Partner at Lionel, Sawyer, and Collins in 2005. Besides his work, he enjoyed his family, friends, and Pittsburgh Steelers football games. Pete was preceded in death by his mother; and sister, Maisie Gibson O'Bannon. He is survived by his father; wife, Elizabeth Litton Gibson; and children, Stephen and Kathryn Gibson of Las Vegas, Melissa Dustin of Corona, Calif., Daniel Gibson of Portland, Ore., and Alexander Gibson of Orange, Calif. Pete is also survived by his nieces, Maureen and Megan O'Bannon of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Las Vegas and Henderson areas. Private family burial is pending. The family requests that donations in Pete's memory be sent to the UNLV Foundation to benefit the William S. Boyd School of Law, 4505 Maryland Parkway, Box 451006, Las Vegas, NV 89154-1006.
