SAM CHINKES Beloved husband, father and grandfather Sam Chinkes of Las Vegas passed away April 10, 2019, at 95 years old. Sam shared his long happy life with Eta, his wife and love of 69 years who passed a few weeks before him, and with his daughter Anita, his grandchildren Henry and Sofie, and his son-in-law Scott. Born 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to Max and Anna Chinkes, and brother Hy, Sam was a talented sculptor, painter, industrial designer, inventor, writer and founder of the Sound Advertising agency. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in the Bronx, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Several of his paintings depict his time stationed in Greenland which he spoke of often. After the war, in New York he attended the Pratt Institute and studied under Reginald Marsh at the Art Students' League and at the Museum of Modern Art. Sam had boundless energy and curiosity about the world and about people. He was active in civic organizations and art clubs, volunteered as a newspaper reader for the blind on the radio, and as an art teacher. He was light on his feet - an avid tennis player who could do the Russian Kazatski in his 90's. He was proud to have been recognized as "The World's Oldest MMA Fan" by the UFC. He was fascinated with technology and used his iPhone and mac for digital art and photos. He will live on through his art and through our wonderful memories. We will always love you and miss you, Daddy-o.
