HALLIE "KELLY" CHUNG Our loving mother, Hallie "Kelly" Chung, left for her "big ranch in the sky" March 1, 2018. Hallie Ellen Day was born January 19, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa. Although known for her feisty and sassy outlook on life that involved a few choice swear words at times, Mama had a heart of gold and an incredibly generous spirit. In 1965, when "mixed" marriages were still rather uncommon, Mom found lasting happiness with our Dad, Alvin Woon On Chung, and she learned to cook many traditional Hakka dishes from her mother-in-law. In November 2015, Mom achieved one of her "bucket list" items when she and Dad celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed in February 2016. Over the years, she was devoted to her many beloved cats and dogs and loved to support animal charities of all kinds. She also loved feeding her family and friends and cooked many holiday dinners for them. Her naturally caring nature led her to become a surrogate mother for many of our friends who could always rely on her spunkiness and loving support. She was loved devotedly by her four children, Su Kim, Su Lon, Kurt and Rhonda; her sisters, Beverlee and Lisa; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a host of surrogate sons and daughters she collected over the years. We thank Nathan Adelson Hospice and their wonderful home hospice nurses for the loving care they provided over the past year. A memorial open house will be held in April. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Nathan Adelson Hospice, Best Friends Animal Society or an animal to remember our sweet Mama.
