Katherine Selinsky Obituary
KATHERINE SELINSKY Katherine Esther Selinsky, 52, passed away in Las Vegas, Thursday, July 24, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born Nov. 5, 1955, in Los Angeles, she moved to Las Vegas in 1963, attended Paradise Elementary from 1963-1966, and Ruby Thomas Elementary and Fremont Middle Schools from 1967-1969. She was a 1973 graduate of Las Vegas High School where she served as senior editor of the Desert Breeze campus newspaper. After high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Army where she was stationed at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. She was a news reporter and staff photographer, as Katherine Scott, for the Henderson Home News, from 1984-1994, which included coverage of the Pepcon explosion. In recent years, Katherine was employed by TRW, as an administrative assistant. She was also pursuing a degree at UNLV in religious studies. Katherine was named by Congregation Ner Tamid as Congregant of the Year in 2000. She is survived by her son, Shawn Scott; brother, Michael Selinsky; and sister, Susan Wagner. She is also survived by first cousins, Jan and Dale Goodman, Paul and Claudia Chasman; aunts and uncles, Eugene Goodman and Elaine Goodman, Xenia Selinsky Chasman and Daniel Chasman; as well as many descendents of her great-grandparents, Abraham and Esther Kaplan, in Southern California. She was pre-deceased by her father, Victor Selinsky; mother, Sheila Dolores Goodman; brother, Jonathan A. Selinsky; maternal grandparents, Morris Issac Goodman and Sadye Kaplan Goodman; and paternal grandparents, Max Selinsky and Marguerita Mandelstamm Selinsky. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Congregation Ner Tamid, 55 North Valle Verde, Henderson. Funeral services are pending at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, Katherine's family asks that donations be made to the Adult Education Program at Congregation Ner Tamid, 55 North Valle Verde, Henderson, NV 89074, or Find A Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
