LAYTON ARNOLD Layton Arnold, a longtime educator, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018, in Las Vegas. He was born March 17, 1937, in Britton, S.D., where he grew to be a leader and gifted athlete. Layton graduated from Britton High School and received a bachelor's and master's degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. He played football while attending Northern. Layton spent three years in Germany, with the 82nd and 11th Airborne completing his required jumps as a paratrooper. Layton travelled the world with Special Forces participating in athletic teams. Upon returning to the U.S., he began his career as a teacher, coach and school administrator. Summers were spent working with youth baseball while he himself played amateur baseball. Layton loved all sports. He moved to Nevada to watch his sons, Chris and Tim play baseball at UNLV. He was employed with CCSD until his retirement in 2009. A colorful career coming to an end, he found solace in time spent with family, friends and dogs. Layton is survived by his two sons; daughter-in-law, Roxanne; six grandchildren, Alex, Joshua, Samantha, Jordan, Haleigh and Mallory; four great-grandchildren, Savannah, Lia, Jacob and Cayson; four nieces; and his best gal, Marlys.
