1959 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
RICHARD BLAKE Richard Allen Blake, 59, passed away in his Henderson home August 24, 2018. Born in Italy to Robert and Dolly Blake, June 30, 1959, Richard grew up with a great appreciation of history and a curiosity that motivated him to explore. His father served in the military and moved Richard and his five siblings from Italy to Virginia before settling in Henderson in 1972. As a teenager, Richard went on to develop a keen sense for athletics and became a star quarterback on the Basic High School football team. His play caught the attention of coaches at the University of Nevada, Reno, where Richard went on to attend college. Even after his football career ended following injury, athletics remained a crucial part of Richard's life. After starting his family, he satisfied his passion for sports by coaching his kids in Little League and by rooting rabidly for his two favorite professional teams, the Washington Redskins and Chicago Cubs. In work, Richard made a name for himself in the world of home construction back in Henderson, where he became superintendent for R/S Development. For 23 years, Richard worked diligently on the residential expansion of the greater Las Vegas region. One of Richard's greatest career accomplishments was the development of suburban neighborhoods in the Summerlin area. Richard will be remembered for his patient and quiet nature. He listened to friends and family with thoughtful equanimity and was always happy to provide guidance to those who sought it. His sense of humor will also provide his loved ones with lasting memories. Close friends and family will never forget that deep, hearty laugh Richard would bellow out from his belly whenever he was genuinely entertained. He leaves behind a legacy survived by the love of his life, Sherry Latham, along with five adult children, Trisha Blake, Tiffany Blake-Burns, Christopher Blake, Renee Hietbrink-Miller and Ryan Hietbrink; six grandkids; Richard's siblings, Nancy, Stacey, Charlene and Robert; four nieces and nephews; and five great-nephews. A celebration of Richard's life will take place in a memorial service Sunday, September 23. Information for the event can be obtained by emailing Richard's daughter, Trisha, at t.blakee_minusego.com.
