SAMUEL DEGENERO Samuel Michael DeGenero, of Las Vegas, passed away February 3, 2018, at the age of 67, at home, with family at his side, after battling chronic diseases on February 3, 2018. Sam was born December 10, 1950, in Troy, New York, to Carrado DeGenero and Jennie Pignolo. Growing up in a close-knit Italian family, with a younger sister and two younger brothers, and being surrounded by his larger extended family, forever shaped Sam's outlook and priorities. He loved family, food and festivities. At a young age, he learned to play the accordion, which later led to him providing entertainment at weddings and parties. The ability that Sam had to connect with others, explains his chosen career path of bartending. His outgoing personality, smile, and ease of conversation made him a natural in the field of hospitality. He enjoyed connecting with others and cultivating relationships with his regular customers, beginning with those he met at Hof's Hut in Orange, California in the 1970's. Be it conversation about sports, music, current events, or just providing his ears to listen, Sam could make anyone feel welcome in his presence, at his bar. He continued working in the restaurant industry, eventually becoming a general manager with Red Lobster. After moving to Las Vegas in 2001, Sam extended his skills into the gaming industry, learning to deal cards, before retiring in early 2007. In his home life, Sam was the king of the barbeque and his family and friends always looked forward to delicious holiday meals, as with his attention to detail, the turkey was never dry and glasses were always topped off. He was a wonderful chef and host and those fortunate enough to share his home and table, will never forget the joy and good times he provided. Sam will be lovingly missed by his wife, of 38 years, Tina Kenaley; his daughter, Allison; and son, Steven. He loved us unconditionally and worked hard to ensure we always had more than we ever needed. Sam is survived by his mother, Jennie DeGenero of Venice, Florida. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, RoseAnn Morelli, and her husband, Paul; his brothers, Dominic DeGenero, and his wife, Cindy, and Michael. Sam was the proud uncle of Kari, Jeff, Aimee, Nicholas, Stevie, Dominic Jr., Michael Jr. and Danielle; and great-uncle, to Joshua, Carolina and Jonah. He was the loving grandfather of Nathaniel and Teagan Kenaley. Sam also leaves behind friends that he considered family, Lewis Carlotta, Ed Prescott and his wife, Barbara, and Bambi Culver, all of Orange County, California. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Nathan Adelson Hospice. Services will be private.
