DOUGLAS ROSS Douglas Andrew "Doug" Ross, 55, of Vernonia, Ore., passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital. A private family service was held Friday, Oct. 30, in Vernonia. Interment will take place at a later date. Douglas Andrew Ross was born Jan. 2, 1954, in Madison, Wis., the son of Frank Alsworth and Shirley (Spohn) Ross. Doug grew up and received his elementary and high school education in Madison, having graduated from James Madison Memorial High School. Upon graduation from high school, Doug attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated with a bachelor's degree in South Asian studies and a second bachelor's degree in construction administration. After graduation from college, he moved to Tucson, Ariz., where he worked in commercial construction. He moved to Las Vegas in 1990, where he met Bronwen K. Johnson. They were married Dec. 24, 2003, in Las Vegas, where they made their home until two years ago. While in Las Vegas, Doug worked in both commercial and home construction, spending 11 years with Astoria Homes. In 2007, they moved to Vernonia, where they have enjoyed living in the woods and living on Rock Creek. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Frank Ross. Survivors include his wife, Bronwen Ross of Vernonia; mother, Shirley Ross of Madison; son and daughter-in-law, Dustin Johnson and his wife, Amy, of Las Vegas; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Debby Haines and her husband, Rusty, Merry Ross and her husband, Dave Ward, Ginny Ross and her partner, Gael Boyd, Gail Ross and her partner, Catie McDowell, and Suzy Scudder and her husband, Mark. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Layne, Benjamin and Henry; and mother-in-law, Betty Christenson of Vernonia. Doug was an avid fisherman and hunter, and also enjoyed reading and woodworking. The family suggests remembrances to Wild Salmon Center or Trouts Unlimited.
