NINA HARTWELL Obituary
NINA HARTWELL Jan. 17, 1919-Feb. 2, 2017. Nina Pavloff Hartwell joined her late husband, Robert Clark Hartwell, Feb. 2, 2017, from the peaceful confines of their home in Las Vegas. Born in Russia in the aftermath of the 1917 Bolshevik revolution, her family was forced to evacuate to China. World War II then broke out, and Nina and her exiled family were forced to survive in war-torn Japanese occupied China. Following the war, the Pavloffs immigrated to the United States, where Nina met the love of her life, Clark Hartwell. While the Hartwells maintained residences in Bermuda, New York, Cheviot Hills, and Coronado in the early 1960's, Las Vegas became their permanent home. Following Clark's death in 1986, Mrs. Hartwell played an active role in the Hartwell Corporation founded by Clark in the 1940's to develop aircraft quick access systems that first were integrated in the airframes of piston driven aircraft of the 1940's to today's commercial jets. Nina and Clark were special guests of NASA in the summer of 1969 to witness the Apollo 11 mission's attempt to land the first man on the moon. Many southern Nevadans were beneficiaries of Nina's generosity including the thousands of residents in southeast Las Vegas who in 1999 benefited from her land donation to St. Rose de Lima which established the Hartwell Medical Center at Shadow Crest Drive and Warm Springs Road. From the Bolshevik revolution to Las Vegas, and all ports in between, Nina Hartwell's example enriched all who were fortunate to have been touched by her spirit. Nina was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter Pavloff and Leonid Pavloff. Nina is survived by her four nephews, Victor Pavloff, Gregory Pavloff, Timothy Pavloff and Robert Pavloff. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Bunkers Eden Vale Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
